It's very encouraging to see Department of Energy Philippines actively planning the framework that will see natural gas provide a reliable source of power in its future energy mix. According to a Global Wind Report 2024 released by the Global Wind Energy Council this past April, China set a new record with 75 GW of new installations commissioned, contributing to nearly 65% of the global total. Just last month, China installed a massive 18 MW offshore wind turbine, the world’s largest by power rating, further contributing to its clean energy transition. Other countries haven taken notice of these efforts, including Germany, which will install Chinese-built wind turbines at an offshore wind farm of its own.

The Department for the Environment, Climate and Communications has launched a consultation on the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Future Framework Policy Statement. The Future Framework is the long-term model and vision for offshore renewable energy in Ireland. It sets out the pathway Ireland will take to deliver 20GW of offshore wind by 2040 and at least 37GW in total by 2050. Importantly, this framework looks beyond 2030 targets to secure 5GW of offshore wind and 2GW earmarked for the production of green hydrogen. Renewable wind energy is central to Ireland and Europe's decarbonisation and economic plans and is potentially the largest domestic source of electricity that can replace volatile, imported fossil fuels. Europe’s tenth-largest economy, is set to become a hotbed of energy storage project development as the share of renewable energy on its grid soars. Innovation within our industry is vital. And encouraging innovation is even more critical.    The US Department of Energy, in the last few weeks, launched a funding opportunity for groups looking to conduct R&D in offshore wind and marine energy. According to the DOE’s own assessments, floating offshore wind has a potential power of 2.8 TW in the US. This is more than twice the amount of electricity currently consumed in the US! ⚡   This is a welcomed move and yet another example of how countries, like the US, are committed to delivering the energy transition and working towards its ambitious target of 30 GW of offshore wind 🌬️by 2030.    #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind

Vietnam unveils draft regulations on renewable energy trading https://lnkd.in/dgCp-JGv On April 15, 2024, the Vietnamese government publicized Draft Decree Governing Direct Power Trading between Renewable Energy Power Producers and High-Volume Power Users (hereinafter referred to as “the Draft”). The Draft stipulates a mechanism for trading of electricity derived from renewable energy sources through dedicated transmission lines and the national grid. “Renewable energy power producers” are businesses that own solar or wind power plants. Although the country has discussed the connection of renewable energy power generated to the national grid to date, the proposed usage of dedicated transmission lines is highlight of the Draft, attracting significant attention from the industrial sector.

Vietnam's energy sector is transitioning towards renewable sources, with significant policy shifts outlined in the Power Development Plan 8 (PDP8) and the National Energy Master Plan, emphasizing wind and gas over coal. Investments, including a $15.5 billion pledge from G7 countries, aim to double power generation by 2030.
