I've been detoxing from social media (and Linkedin) for a while focusing on my startup journey. In this time I've spent countless hours thinking and researching through different problems and solutions, and specifically how they meet the market and the world. It amazes me how seemingly simple advice can sometimes be so difficult to really internalize and implement, as it is based on such deep understanding and experience. A few of my close friends have recently gone through an exciting milestone in their startup journey. I strongly remember one of the company's founders telling me a while ago not to rush. "The time spent thinking about what your mission and vision is will be your guide for a long time, I only wish we've spent just a little longer on that...". Over time I'm learning the importance of deliberate progress as opposed to progress driven by inertia. I believe building great things takes time, not to say that this time should be spent in silo, not at all, but it requires a lot of patience and dedication to realize what you can do for the world that will bring real value and to intentionally deliver on that mission. Maybe the hardest part in this is to be able to distinguish what requires this sort of attention and what doesn't while balancing external stressors to make advancements that shouldn't be made just yet... I'm really excited to start sharing some of the learning we've made along the way and what we're building as I deeply believe we're working on some of the most exciting and important problems of our future, so expect to see more of me around. For now I'll leave you with this great interview of Jensen Huang, the co-founder and CEO of NVIDIA, at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. It's apparent how his engineering background and systematic thinking process has guided him and the company through difficult challenges and how this approach is a core to the company's success to this day. He constantly mentions how "going back to first principles" is the first step in solving big problems. Notice how he uses "technical/systematic" lingo to explain how he views parts of his role as CEO. Allin thinks Nvidia $2.8t market cap, will force Venture Capital to invest in Hardware to compete Nvidia's profits away... The irony, of Silicon Valley started out in semiconductor/hardware with Hewlett & Packard (HP) in the 1930s, and Fairchild Semiconductor 1957, Apple, Intel, Cisco ext... But in the 1990's-2024 Venture Capital avoids hardware companies, in favor of SaaS, Social Media, Consumer Internet ext...
