What a wonderful celebration of our youth leadership programs last night at Everett High School! We celebrated the incredible youth, Y staff, and volunteers who inspire, motivate, challenge, and impact our community with their work. Staff and students shared highlights and testimonials from Youth and Government, Mock Trial, Leaders Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, My Achievers Program (MAP), Skate, Miracle League, and 3rd Grade Swim. Our programs are filled with amazing youth who truly are the future leaders and changemakers of Snohomish County. RYLA changed my life at the age of 15. So much so that I’ve volunteered for Rotary District 5280’s RYLA for the past 18 years. The lessons that I learned and now teach at RYLA are the foundation of my work ethic and style. They inform the ways I navigate leadership, team dynamics, productivity, and problem-solving. We teach students about their working personalities and how those personalities connect and conflict with each other in team settings. We teach students how to utilize the fundamental “Four C’s of Leadership”: Communication, Creativity, Compassion, and Cooperation. We give students a safe space where they can express themselves freely without judgment. We teach students not how to think outside the box, but how to think like there is no box. #RYLA #leadership #serviceaboveself #thereisnobox
