One of the uniquely rewarding things about working on the agency side is the exposure to so many different kinds of businesses and industries. I seem to learn some new, interesting fact every week. Whether it’s a F500, startup or medium sized local buisness, all of them have their challenges when hiring for talent. They also all have different selling points for why candidates should join their company. Although the title at a F500 and startup may sound the same, those are two distinctly different roles. I think it would be very hard to argue the Iceberg model is not a great representation of the various recruitment strategies, showing the stark difference in results and abilities of each! Couldn't agree more. And to add: It is *monumentally* harder to fix a damaged culture than to build it correctly from the start, and the only way to build it right from the start is to have a genuine subject matter expert in the door very early. It's more than recruiting, although that's incredibly important. It's your stance on DEIB. It's whether you're empowering employees to do their best work. It's how you're approaching work practices, values, and company philosophy. It's whether you're considering culture as you build. It's your approach to growth and retention. It's compliance! It's your employer brand. It's your compensation philosophy (which relates to so many areas, including but not limited to pay equity, retention, budget) It's organization structure. It's the difference between trying to grow with mountains of operational debt, and approaching your processes, policies, people and growth with intentional focus on scalability. It's beyond time to stop viewing HR/People Ops as the "company cops" and to see us as the strategic partners critical to your business we can (and should!) be.
