I'm thrilled to share that an article on Arizona State University's website highlights the transformative workshop I led as a graduate Teaching Assistant for the FSE 100 class. This workshop, in collaboration with Professor Chao Wang, showcased the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) into engineering education. By immersing students in practical experiences and problem-solving, we bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. The article emphasizes Professor Chao Wang's innovative teaching approach, incorporating technologies like AI and IoT to provide hands-on experience and develop essential problem-solving skills. Recognizing the increasing demand for AI and IoT in various engineering disciplines, Professor Wang ensured that students gained a foundational understanding of these concepts. Through engaging exercises using MATLAB, a powerful programming platform, students were able to grasp complex concepts and enhance their future career prospects. One of the standout exercises involved using a pre-trained deep learning model called AlexNet, where students captured photos of common household items. Running the provided script allowed them to observe the AI's classification results and confidence levels. Additionally, the workshop incorporated active learning techniques such as flipped classroom and project-based learning, further enhancing students' practical experience with software applications and their ability to apply concepts to real-world scenarios. The article also highlights the positive impact of the workshop, as demonstrated by student feedback. The exercises were not only enjoyable but also motivated students, with higher self-determination reported compared to previous course activities. As a graduate Teaching Assistant, I witnessed firsthand the meaningful discussions and strong engagement among students during these workshops. The practical knowledge gained sparked curiosity and inspired students to explore AI and IoT further in their final projects. The experience has been personally rewarding, encouraging me to pursue further research and projects in this field. To delve deeper into Professor Wang's groundbreaking work with AI and IoT, I've linked the full article. It's an exciting glimpse into the future of engineering education at Ira A. I can see that your acting career is taking off! You’re doing so well for yourself! Congratulations! It’s great that you’re using what you learned at Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University and applying it to the younger generation. Engineering shouldn’t start in college, it needs to be reached out to high schools and middle schools. I hope you have inspired young engineers at your workshop and many more to come! #inspirethefuture
