A very interesting article which brings evidence on the connection between olfaction and neuronal activity, including memory and neuronal growth. A relatively unexplored field despite number of results listed in the article bringing additional evidence to this study amazing results: 226% improvement in a memory scale after 6 months exposure! Low intensity light to fight the effects of chronic stress https://lnkd.in/dBhSFT8i Some neurological disorders can be improved through photobiomodulation, a non-invasive technique based on the application of low-intensity light to stimulate altered functions in specific regions of the body. Now, a study reveals how photobiomodulation applied to the brain-gut axis is effective in recovering some cognitive alterations and sequelae caused by chronic stress. The study opens up new perspectives for applying the technique in future therapies for the treatment of neurological diseases in patients.

Another article from our research team, titled "A Surprising Presentation of Atypical Pantothenate Kinase-Associated Neurodegeneration Disorder: Metamorphopsia," discusses a rare and unexpected symptom in a patient with atypical pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN). PKAN is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder characterized by iron accumulation in the brain, typically presenting with movement disorders such as dystonia and parkinsonism. In this case, the patient exhibited metamorphopsia, a visual distortion where objects appear misshapen, which is unusual for PKAN. This symptom underscores the variability in clinical presentations of the disorder and suggests that PKAN can affect visual pathways more significantly than previously understood. The study emphasizes the need for clinicians to consider a broad range of symptoms when diagnosing and managing PKAN and highlights the importance of further research into the diverse manifestations of this condition. What is brain stimulation? What forms of invasive and, above all, non-invasive brain stimulation procedures (NIBS) are available, what is the current state of scientific knowledge and where can patients with Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's, depression or other neurological and psychiatric diseases be treated today?   And why is there still so little public information outside specialist circles about this new era in medicine, which can complement the prevailing psychopharmacological methods of recent decades so extensively with innovative methods such as Transcranial Pulse stimulation (TPS)?   "Alzheimer Science", the information portal on Alzheimer's research, neuroscience and brain stimulation, has recently taken a look around and added an overview article entitled "Who uses brain stimulation?" to its "Brain stimulation" information section.   The conclusion is that NIBS represent a significant advance in personalized medicine. They represent not only a supplement to existing therapies, but also a step towards more precise and effective treatment that can sustainably improve the lives of patients with complex neurological and mental illnesses.   However, public and general information and media coverage of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) is not yet keeping pace with scientific interest and clinical applications.
