Did you know that you could be the hero a child needs? By becoming a living liver donor, you have the power to transform a child's life. Here's how you can make a difference: 1. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬: If you're in good health, without chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension, you could be an ideal donor. 2. 𝐀𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: Donors typically range from 18-55 years old, but assessments are done on a case-by-case basis. 3. 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐁𝐌𝐈: A healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) is important to minimize complications during and after surgery. 4. 𝐍𝐨𝐧-𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐫: Non-smokers or those willing to quit are preferred to ensure optimal liver health. 5. 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Being mentally and emotionally prepared for the donation and recovery process is crucial. 6. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦: A strong support network can greatly assist in your recovery journey. Safe blood saves lives. Blood is needed by women with complications during pregnancy and childbirth, children with severe anaemia, often resulting from malaria or malnutrition, accident victims and surgical and cancer patients. Regular blood donation by a sufficient number of healthy people is needed to ensure that blood will always be available whenever and wherever it is needed. While the need for blood is universal, access to blood is not. Blood shortages are acute in low- and middle-income countries. Every single blood or plasma donation is a precious lifesaving gift; regular donation is the key to building a safe and sustainable supply. Wide participation of the population in regular blood and plasma donations ensure that everyone can access blood and plasma proteins when they need it. Ensuring the safety and well-being of blood and plasma donors is critical; it helps build commitment to regular donations. Thank you, blood donors. 7 FACTS ABOUT BLOOD GROUP A 1. *Antigens and Antibodies*: Blood group A- individuals have A antigens on the surface of their red blood cells. These antigens give them the blood group A.  Rh Factor: The negative sign (-) indicates the absence of the Rh factor. A- individuals lack the Rh factor in their red blood cells. 2.*Compatibility:* Blood group A- individuals can receive blood from A- and O- donors. They can donate blood to individuals with A- and AB-blood types. 3.*Universal Plasma Donors*: A- individuals are considered universal plasma donors for ABO-compatible recipients, meaning their plasma can be given to individuals of any ABO blood type. 4. *Medical Considerations:* In pregnancy, Rh-women may receive Rh immunoglobulin (RhIg) to prevent Rh incompatibility issues between the mother and baby. 5.*Population Distribution:* The distribution of blood types varies among populations. Blood group A- is less common than some other blood types. 6. *Health Considerations*: While blood types are not directly linked to personality or health traits, some studies suggest a potential association between certain blood types and specific health conditions. 7. *Blood Transfusions:* The compatibility of blood types is crucial during blood transfusions to prevent adverse reactions. A- individuals should receive A- or O- blood. Have friends and families that are A-? Some non-identifying information will be accessible to prospective parents during donation and to children conceived using your donation once they reach 16. Parents can also access this non-identifying data from the child's birth onward. When donor-conceived children turn 18, they can access your identifying data. Health assessments: Potential donors undergo tests for specific diseases, including severe genetic disorders. Counselling: By law, clinics must offer counselling services to donors. We’re stepping up for a cause that matters! As we gear up for International Women’s Day on 8th March, the Osprey team is dedicating the entire month to a special mission: walking 5 million steps with a goal of raising £5,000 in support of women's health. With over a century of history, International Women’s Day is a day of collective global activism and celebration, dedicated to forging women's equality. In the words of Gloria Steinem, "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights. 🌸 The cause we're championing is The Eve Appeal, the leading UK national charity focused on funding research and raising awareness for the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval, and vaginal. 👣 Our goal is twofold: to raise £5K and, more importantly, to spread awareness about gynaecological cancers. Every step we take toward this target makes a real impact, supporting vital research that has been vastly underfunded. 🏆 When we achieve our steps and fundraising goals, Osprey is committed to donating an additional £1000 on top of what we have fundraised to The Eve Appeal. Women’s health has been vastly under-researched, with recent data showing that only 2% of medical research funding is spent on pregnancy, childbirth, and female reproductive health, despite one in three women reporting issues with reproductive or gynaecological health.
