In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

There was a lot to celebrate over the weekend. Besides graduating from SID-SCS Women in Tech Board Readiness Program, I've also FINALLY made it to Silver Medallion as a blood donor! What's there to be proud of? This was 20 years in the making! 台上一分钟台下十年功 sounds about right. 😂 I've been a blood donor longer than I've known my husband (18 years). Besides the period that I've been working overseas, pregnant and/or breastfeeding (lost 8 years there), I've always made it a point to make time to donate blood every 10-12 weeks after my last donation. A friend asked - "Why the extra effort? There will be others who will donate blood." Why indeed! Because I consider it a blessing to be able to donate blood! This means I'm healthy enough to do so. So if I can, why shouldn't I? And if the blood bank as excess of blood, they can use it in research to help with other blood studies or treatment. There are more reasons why you cannot donate blood than when you can (period after surgery, tattoo, blood transfusion, on medication, illness, pregnancy, menses, multiple sex partners, risky travel, low blood count etc), so it is a BIG DEAL if you are able to donate blood. This life saving fluid also cost us nothing to donate, but means everything to the beneficiary. So I'll happily wear my Silver Medallion with pride (just 12 more until 50 donations to reach Ruby), and blatantly ask my friends, family and network to donate blood at your local blood bank if you can :) Thank you Minister of State Ministry of Health (Singapore) and Ministry of Communications and Information Rahayu Mahzam, Member of Parliament Wan Rizal Bin Wan Zakariah for gracing the event in the morning and afternoon ceremony, Singapore Red Cross Chairman Kai Hoe Tan, Secretary-General/CEO Benjamin William for your inspiring address, and all the wonderful volunteers who made World Blood Donor Day so much fun. ❤️💯 If you're a fellow blood donor, please leave a high-five! 👋 #blooddonation #blooddonor

Well done! I tried once but was very giddy thereafter so I didn’t carry on.
