💻 Mistral AI Paris Hackathon: our impressions This past weekend, we provided infrastructure, judicial expertise and sponsorship for the Mistral AI Paris Hackathon. Here are some technical takeaways from the event: - Diverse expertise and accessibility of model fine-tuning The hackathon showcased teams with varying levels of expertise, yet many took on the challenge of fine-tuning models. This is becoming increasingly accessible, especially with the availability of GPU resources. Apart from that, during the workshops, several companies presented tools designed to simplify fine-tuning and inferencing of popular open-source models. - Attracting top talent The event drew several PhD students specializing in AI, highlighting the hackathon's ability to attract high-caliber talent. This influx of advanced expertise enriched the competition and the quality of solutions presented. - Standout demos and use of Nebius GPUs The team that delivered an actual demo during their final pitch stood out significantly, impressing the judges and audience alike. Notably, about 80 percent of the teams (52 teams, to be precise) used Nebius GPUs for fine-tuning or inference, demonstrating the platform's effectiveness. This is particularly impressive given that participants had not only access to Nebius infrastructure but also API access for some base models. - Application of workshop algorithms Interestingly, one team applied an algorithm similar to what we presented on the first day in our workshop, showing how quickly participants could implement and adapt new knowledge. Overall, the Mistral AI Hackathon was a testament to the growing accessibility of advanced AI tools and the impressive talent in the field. #MLcompetitions #hackathons #workshops #finetuning

Are you wondering what some of our AI researchers are working on? Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming over 30 machine learning specialists at the Tübingen AI Center, where we hosted a Hackathon centered on the SBI Toolbox.   The SBI (Simulation-Based Inference) toolbox was initially developed by the team of our core-faculty member Jakob Macke in 2020 and has since become a community project maintained by several labs worldwide.
