Thank you to Diversability® for sharing my experience being LGBTQ+ and disabled. Going through life with these identities allows me to see them in a different lens. Read below my section in the article! "Zane was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder that impacts his life in a variety of ways including unpredictable waves of depression that can make me feel unmotivated, sad, and lost. For Zane, LGBTQ+ Pride is the freedom to express the depths of one's sexuality without the weight of judgment. It grants him the courage to embrace his LGBTQ+ identity without the fear of prejudice. Pride allows him to be himself unapologetically and irrespective of others' opinions. Likewise related to his disability, Zane is unashamed of who he is and his diagnosis. He feels that this intersection is blossoming, not only in his own opinion, but in the larger LGBTQ+ community. However, he believes the primary challenge with Pride events is that they do not issue is that they aren’t accessible for disabled people which makes it difficult for people with disabilities to fully participate."

I am excited to share my story for LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Thank you to The Jed Foundation (JED) for giving me this opportunity to share my journey coming out, and how it impacted my mental health. Coming out was a difficult process that took me a long time to understand. There were many challenging moments, but I am here today, living openly as a queer person. I appreciate my identity even more after what it took to get here.

2024 is the year I genuinely will transform and redefine my health. I am no longer focused on losing weight, the numbers, or quantity. The numbers are a distraction to a better quality of life. I am only focused on eating better, sustainable choices, exercising, challenging my body, and pushing myself. I am working with a new doctor and have a dietician to provide me with research-based lifestyle changes. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to run #baytobreakers! It was my first run, and it was really hard. But I am looking forward to more races in the future.

Thank you to California State Polytechnic University-Pomona for featuring my career journey in the official Bronco Magazine! I am very grateful for my experience at my alma mater. I couldn't have asked for a better university adventure. What a fantastic job to Melanie C. Johnson for writing the excellent piece. And my wonderful mentor, Ashley Jones, who spoke about me in the article. She was the person who introduced me to the world of communications and marketing as a potential career path. "As an undergraduate, Landin (’22, communication) took a variety of classes from philosophy to psychology to see what he connected with most. Going into his fourth year of college, he was majoring in science, technology and society when he decided to switch to a communication major. At the time, he was serving as the president the student-run College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) Council, which had a goal of improving its communications efforts across the college and on campus. A light came on."

My next career move is here! Google my name, and you'll find out. That's exactly where I am going. I am incredibly excited to announce I will join Google as an Associate Product Marketing Manager (APMM). This is a two-year program where participants have two unique roles across Google. I will miss Washington, D.C. because I am now back in California. I am moving to Mountain View. My mom always talked about how Google was the place to work. I can't see or hear her reaction, but I can imagine she is proud of me. I have always dreamt of working for Google but never thought it would be possible for someone like me. I feel incredibly proud and honored to have the opportunity to work for such a fantastic company. Every mentor I've had has played a pivotal role in where I am today, and I can't thank them enough. I am excited to see the future and am grateful for this tremendous opportunity. 

Today marks my final day at the National Geographic Society. I want to express my gratitude for this unique and wonderful journey over the past year. It has been a period filled with challenges, accomplishments, and growth. I feel blessed to have had this once-in-a-lifetime experience. During my time here, I had the incredible opportunity to work with some of the most brilliant and innovative minds in the world. This was my first role out of university, and I couldn't have asked for a better start in my career. I have had the privilege of meeting explorers, working on challenging projects, co-leading the disability inclusion network, and even participating in an Afro Jazz dance class alongside the Chief Executive Officer. These are memories that I will always cherish. Although it is bittersweet to say goodbye, I am excited about what the future holds. I will always look back on my time at the National Geographic Society with fondness and gratitude. Thank you for everything, and I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life. #career #lastday #newchapter #grateful
