We welcomed members of Transport for London and London Treasury Limited, amongst others, to listen and learn in an electrification roundtable last week. Jon Eardley, Managing Director of Transport UK London Bus spoke about his experiences, saying “You used to have one fleet – diesel vehicles. In this new era, you have three: a fleet of chargers, a fleet of batteries, and a fleet of chassis.” The group discussed questions around cost security, power demands and shared infrastructure. Host Ian Dennis welcomed the challenging questions as well as the technical, in a two-hour session that was educational and inspiring. >> This will be the first of many innovation sessions. A morning at the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce’ Glasgow Talks event, hearing from leaders in the transport sector: Fiona Doherty FCILT, Valerie Davidson, and Duncan Cameron. The utilisation of data in the transport industry is a significant key to operational efficiency and the transition to decarbonisation. This morning's event fascinated me, especially as Bellrock Technology Ltd has been working with Angel Trains over the past few years. With 30% of the rolling stock in the UK to manage and over £4 billion invested in new trains, putting data to use is critical for operations. Bellrock supports Angel Trains in using their data to monitor their fleet day-to-day. This live data helps identify areas for improvement. With Lumen®, they have an approach to using their data that can scale across the organisation. This can be replicated across all areas of the transport sector. The challenge that Lumen® eases is efficiently and inexpensively pulling collaborative data together and building the outputs to generate insights at pace, where data was once siloed or unused.
