Dear community,
I have started a new adventure in Aalborg Portland as responsible for the operations of white and grey clinker and cement production in Aalborg (Denmark). It almost completes my technical experience in all type of technologies in the cement industry.
After the perspective of 3 months working as Plant Director, I can share that I’m really enjoying a lot this new chapter of my professional life.
Starting with PEOPLE, I count with a strong team reporting to me, that are very committed to the company. Due to the larger size of this plant and the higher number of workers, to get all the faces and names, it’s taking longer (and still my Danish pronunciation is terrible… 😊, please be patient (tak!) )
I’m also higher involved and constantly interacting with my boss and peers, making a big difference in a better communication and alignment. It helps a lot that the company headquarters are located close by to the plant, so we have a daily face to face interaction, with common meeting rooms, canteen (it’s fantastic! and more if you are living alone as I am now…), and other facilities (gym-badminton-sauna-etc…).
The openness, where everyone approaches each other, and the involvement of many workers in several social and sport activities in the community, it’s fantastic.
The ambition of the company and targets for this plant are very high, with the building of Carbon Capture Installation in few years. Being part of that integration, running the actual plant, it will be a great experience for me and I’m glad to contribute to it.
I see also strong resources from CEMENTIR group, starting from the Group Research and Quality Competence Center, that is our global lab, located also few hundred meters from our plant and also the CEMENTIR team in Rome, that I will start to meet and connect in the next coming weeks.
Also collaborating with other countries where the group is located will be another opportunity to share knowledge.
The unique thing that is going not as expected, it’s the weather. Someone told me: it’s very rare snow in Denmark.... ;) , and this year has been one with extreme snow and cold. But if you learn how to HYGGE (https://lnkd.in/gtKrNQa7) , I guess you can survive to it….. if you don’t fly due to the wind.
I noticed that Aalborg is even worse than Kingston, with a lot of time with strong winds….
But in general, I am extremely satisfied of my first period in AP, and one thing that doesn’t change around the world, is that all the Kiln Shutdowns, ends putting flame on, Saturdays Night!! 😉 (last night!)
So, all my LinkedIn network, now you have my new point of contact: for suppliers to can reach us for new technologies-ideas, or for me to share interesting job opportunities in AP. Just if you don’t know: Aalborg is in the ranking of one of the happiest cities in the Europe…
