Happy Friday! Today marks the conclusion of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, but our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion continues. Awareness campaigns come and go, serving as valuable starting points but their effectiveness hinges on sparking long-term change. These initiatives are grounded in common goals: embracing #DEI, raising awareness, and uplifting communities. But they only succeed if they translate into action such as providing educational and professional resources, advancing leadership opportunities, and ensuring a diverse workforce. Achieving these goals requires time, resources, and dedicated people to create lasting change. That's why we shouldn't stop celebrating in May. Let’s actively champion inclusion and support #AAPI every day. It’s not just about the high-profile political and business leaders but our everyday heroes: Your mom. Your brother. Your friend. Your local restaurant owner. Your co-worker. You. Let’s keep the conversation going beyond May. Share inspiring stories of #AsianAmericans and make a difference in your community, today and everyday. Joy Chen (陈愉)'s "The Unwritten Rules of the Game: An insider's guide to Corporate America" helped me better to understand the AANHPI experience - especially as someone who was raised in and has always worked in an individualistic culture, rather than in a collectivist culture. My favorite line from Joy's guide is: "When you learn to truly, deeply love and respect yourself is when you'll be truly powerful, and be able to secure the trust and respect of all". This month, we celebrate the generations of individuals who have enriched American history, society and culture. One of the themes for 2024 observance of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacifica Islander Heritage Month is “Advancing Leaders Through Innovation.” This theme, selected by the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC), pays “homage to the visionaries and trailblazers who have shaped AANHPI history and continue to influence our collective future. Innovation, resilience, and a pioneering spirit are cornerstones of American leadership. AANHPI leaders have made lasting contributions to our Nation’s economic prosperity, technological advancements, and social/political change through their ingenuity and creativity while navigating significant cultural and systemic barriers.” #AANHPI #AANHPIHeritageMonth #AAPI

Juneteenth is a very important holiday for celebration and reflection! Though only recognized federally a few years ago, it had been celebrated by African-Americans for over 150 years. Please take time to reflect on how racial bias against African-Americans still takes place in the workplace today. This could be things like: automatically doubting work, not considering us for promotions, or thinking we’re ‘angry’ when we’re only being direct. This could look like: an all-white leadership team, African American team members often staying quiet during meetings, or the workplace not acknowledging this holiday. #juneteenth #happyjuneteenth #racialbias
