I’ve been working with Ming for about 7 months. When I first started working with him, he’d cry and scream, and sometimes rolled on the floor during my sessions, as well as hitting his jaw. When he’s asked how he felt at that moment, he’d always tell me “don’t want sad/cry” or “I’m happy” while his tears streaming down his cheeks. I had discussions with his parents to identify our primary goals. We’ve come to agree that emotional regulation skill and behavior management skill are two of the primary goals for Ming. We agreed that Ming shouldn’t have to suppress his emotions and thinks his emotions are invalid. So, I started teaching him The Zones of Regulation (The Zones of Regulation, Inc. developed by Leah Kuypers) and eventually worked with his parents to provide the support and guidance for Ming. When I was told that Dr Annie Liau Fui Vun 廖慧汶儿科医生(特殊兴趣自闭症) wrote about his recent follow-up with her, I rushed to read the write-up and I’m totally GREEN! 💚 💚 💚 I’m immensely proud of Ming and his parents. I’m also extremely happy that The Zones of Regulation works so well for Ming. It really warms my heart when I get to work with a family that is open and accepting, and when we’re able to accomplish goals together. I would also like to thank Dr. Annie for noticing and acknowledging the progress Ming has made thus far, as well as writing this piece of article. 😊
