As of 2024, the global female population stands at 4.04 billion, representing nearly half of the world's population. While women's health has long been a societal priority, the emergence of FemTech has revolutionized the field. Coined by Ida Tin in 2016, FemTech encompasses technology-driven solutions tailored specifically for women's health. 🌐𝐀 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭: A report by Frost & Sullivan predicts that FemTech revenue will soar to 1.186 trillion USD by 2027. Michelle Tempest, a psychiatrist, highlights this potential: "The market potential is huge. There’s definitely an increasing appetite for technology in healthcare, recognizing female consumer power." 💡𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲: At its core, FemTech empowers women to take control of their health. Femtech Insights put out an excellent report, 2023 Femtech Landscape Report, on the status of the Femtech industry. Below are some interesting points from this report: ·      In 2023, significant progress was made in making Femtech a mainstream industry, allowing it to move beyond the outside borders of the healthcare and technology sectors.  This shift was a result of various factors, including increased investment in Femtech companies, positive effect of artificial intelligence and learning innovations, employer engagement in women’s health, patient empowerment and advocacy and government and policy engagement (such as Spain’s approval of paid menstrual leave and the establishment of the White House Task Force on Women’s Health). ·      In 2023, a total of 1,416 active global Femtech companies were reported, with half of these companies being formed in the last five years. Factors contributing to the growth of Femtech companies include: large number of female founders going into this space, overall increase in support for female founders, and increase in number of women in STEM who are focusing their research on women’s health. ·      Femtech companies are located in 60 countries, with the greatest number in the United States, followed by United Kingdom, France, Canada and Israel. London has the highest number of Femtech startups of any city in the world. ·      Femtech companies are found across a variety of healthcare verticals, ranging from OBGYN/ female care, fertility, menopause, sexual wellness, motherhood and parenting, chronic conditions and mental health. Over the past five years, the highest growth areas have been mental health, menopause and chronic conditions. ·      From 2000 through the first quarter of 2024, the Femtech industry has had 164 exits, comprised of 15 IPOs and 149 M&A events. The major acquirers of Femtech companies are medtech and biotech companies, with Hologic, Cooper Surgical and Boston Scientific being the top three Femtech acquirers. Oova - In collaboration with Mount Sinai Hospital, Oova provides an at-home hormone test paired with a smartphone app to offer personalized fertility plans, addressing fertility challenges faced by many women(HealthcareTech). These companies are part of a growing femtech sector, projected to reach $50 billion by 2025, dedicated to addressing unmet needs in women's health through technological innovation. According to McKinsey & Company, the term "FemTech” is defined as a spectrum of women’s healthcare solutions for female-specific conditions, including maternal health, menstrual health, pelvic and sexual health, fertility, menopause, and contraception, as well as a number of general health conditions that affect women disproportionately or differently. While it's encouraging that this sector has an official name, the reality is that female-focused health tech only attracted 3.3% of digital health funding in the U.S. between 2011 and 2020. This investment obviously falls well short of the needs of half of the population on the planet - roughly 4 billion individuals around the world. A striking illustration of this disparity is ovarian cancer. A silent killer, ovarian cancer has one of the highest mortality rates among all cancers, with a survival rate of just 17% for those diagnosed in advanced stages. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for Disease Control, says this cancer is most effectively treated when detected early -  yet currently no test exists. GENENDEAVOR LLC is highly committed to developing an early detection test for ovarian cancer.
