Chicago Means Business

Recently I travelled to the Windy City on business. My company provided a keynote speaker for a trade association's annual membership event, and I was charged with making sure the event ran smoothly, and capturing the event via video and photography.

The event was held at McCormick & Schmick's on Wacker Drive in the heart of downtown. This being my first trip to Chicago, I was immediately impressed with the surrounding architecture. Equally impressive were the number of Italian restaurants in the city known for deep-dish pizza.

But what struck me most was the caliber of business people on the downtown streets of Chicago. Most everyone I encountered was energetic and full of purpose. Usually one can spot people trudging about as they mutter "one more day till Friday" under their breath. But this was not the case.

Perhaps it was a fluke, but I'd rather believe Chicago is a vibrant city full of exciting people ready to do business. And may I add that the deep dish from Giordano's was heavenly.

I tried to eat pizza there, but the wait was too long for my time frame! Next visit.

Jon wrote that "most everyone I encountered (on the streets of Chicago) [were] energetic and full of purpose." That is because the people of Chicago, and those that visit, rarely concern themselves with things they cannot control, like with fires, floods, or frostbite; they just keep moving -- always have – and thus are too busy to be adversely affected by climate. I know; I lived on its lakefront for a dozen years and everyday was a different spice of life. The place really has that certain vibe, unique and unconcerned. It is pure Americana.

Chicago is a fun town. Great music, art, and business. Bit chilly in February as I distinctly remember my "walk" from the lakefront museums back to hotel. This Southern boy was thinking I can come back for my ears that were left frozen on the sidewalk.
