The Years Of Things and Wearables

Last few years, consumerism was driven by mobile devices. With out doubt, for the next few years, a key driveing force of consumerism will be wearables and things

These are few trend setters, with a huge number of companies following them

And you may find out soon that Apple is all set to lead the things/wearables market too.

  1. Cue deep health tracker – http://cue.me – Acquired by Apple, I'm assuming devices like this will be part of iOS8/Apple Health Kit. First brand to bring molecular digitisation to mobile.
  2. Fitbit, Jawbone, Nike fuelband etc – You already know about this - http://www.cnet.com/topics/wearable-tech/best-wearable-tech/
  3. Kolibree – Mobile connected toothbrush - http://www.kolibree.com/
  4. Voyce – Wearables for dogs - http://mydogsvoyce.com/
  5. Connected home devices like Hue – Hoping we'll soon see devices that'll be integrated with of iOS8/Apple’s new Home automation kit - http://store.apple.com/us/ipod/ipod-accessories/home
  6. Connected Cars – Again apple, https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/
  7. Oculus Rift etc - http://www.oculusvr.com/
  8. Few innovative ones from the Beacon startups - http://techcrunch.com/tag/bluetooth-low-energy/
  9. Myo arm band - https://www.thalmic.com/en/myo/
  10. Fin ring - http://www.wearfin.com/
  11. Smart watches like Pebble - https://getpebble.com/
  12. Products from Nest - http://nest.com

It might be a bit tricky for large enterprises and traditional businesses to adapt to the ever growing IOT/Wearables market - Considering the fact that most of them are already struggling to cop up with the disruptive nature of mobile driven consumer trends and consumer grade user experience. Mobility, combined with wearable form factors, will open more channels of disruption.

Along with the user experience and accessibility, Mobile + Wearables + IOT is also about the contextual insights + recommendations.

1 - Re defining user experience by predictions and recommendations, or even re positioning user experience by leveraging context, will be the key.

2 - Getting closer to user and inspecting the behaviours on a more granular level will enable better targeting.

3 - New platforms that'll provide integrated APIs on top of common devices will evolve. Few platforms like IFTTT give early signals of making things talk each other (http://www.cnet.com/pictures/get-connected-with-these-ifttt-friendly-smart-devices-pictures/)

Exciting years to come!!
