Computers are behind every data strategy, and programmers will always be needed to come up with the algorithms that process data into insights. In particular you should be familiar with the range of open-source technologies.

An understanding of business objectives and the underlying processes which drive profit and business growth are also essential. You should have an understanding of the company’s business goals and objectives as well as the indicators which let them know if they are heading in the right direction.
