Addressing the Families’ Role in Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Connecticut

No family of a drug or alcohol addict goes unaffected by the tragedy and the turmoil of addiction.

Ever.

Parents, spouses, children and often extended family are all impacted.

The only difference between the addict or alcoholic and their family and loved ones that are affected by addiction, is that those that are "collateral damage" do not get to do their best to "numb out."

Given this fact, addiction researchers and clinicians have long had an interest in the family dynamics of addicts in the hope of better understanding the problem’s impacts and origins.

We now know that addiction creates stressors that are difficult to manage and that cause feelings of anger, frustration, loneliness, anxiety, great despair and guilt. We know that addiction can literally tear at the very fabric that holds a family together.

We also know that any attention given to family dynamics during addiction treatment and recovery often pays great dividends for all concerned.

It’s with this knowledge, with inspiration provided by researchers at Yale, that Aware Recovery Care has created its drug and alcohol addiction treatment program.

What Aware is tasked with, is to transform the home into the supportive and healthy environment. The home becomes the treatment center, so one could imagine the challenges of assimilating into the family. Aware Recovery Care's unique offering is not only designed to treat the whole person, but also, the whole family.

This is the work that we choose to do and love as a result.

At the program’s inception, we added licensed Marriage and Family Counselors to a comprehensive rehab team that includes an addiction psychiatrist, a registered nurse, a licensed therapist and a Certified Recovery Coach.

And the licensed Marriage and Family Counselors play a critical role in helping clients and their families recover – while addressing underlying family dynamics that might impair recovery.

Now Aware Recovery Care has taken an additional step. We are now working to make sure all of our Certified Recovery Coaches receive additional certification as “Recovery Support Specialists”. To receive this added certification, specialists must undergo rigorous advanced training in the field of addiction and client care.

If you would like to learn more about the advanced drug and alcohol addiction rehab program in Connecticut that is achieving results of 67% compared to the less than 10% national average – contact a Recovery Care advisor at Aware Recovery Care. We are available to you 24/7, wherever you live in Connecticut. Learn more at www.awarerecoverycare.com, call us at 1-844-AWARERC.
