The Brand Communication internship experience of Dominique van Leeuwen

Hi, 

My name is Dominique van Leeuwen, and I am currently working as a Content Manager for AH Studio. My job is focused on the content for the new FoodFirst app. I started at Ahold in 2019, as an intern in the Brand Communication department of Albert Heijn.

 After four years of study at the Hotel Management School Maastricht I was looking for an internship to end my study with. I was looking for a challenging internship focused on brand development and marketing, preferably in a large organization. During the Matching Days, I spoke to different managers from various departments. All the functions had a relation to brand development and marketing, but my conversation with the Brand Communication department was an instant match.

 For six months I actively cooperated with the Allerhande team on all kinds of tasks. Developing the regular magazines, giving feedback to external agencies, and attending various meetings. My internship focused on realizing the Christmas magazine. This ended in a magazine full of new products, new developments, and inspiring content. Attending the whole process from idea to magazine was very interesting.

After my internship I applied for a job at AH Studio, supported by my internship supervisor. The atmosphere at AH Studio is very good, it daily has an impact on my happiness at work. In addition, my manager has an eye for my personal development and is willing to think along about my career path. Seeing content I contributed to on television, in the supermarket, or in magazines is my favorite part!
