Building a Culture of Innovation: Lessons learned from a healthcare startup

The famous proverb, "Necessity is the Mother of Invention," has led us to believe that problem-solving is the core objective towards achieving success. Invention and innovation are not the same, and while the past two centuries have given us numerous fantastic developments to reflect upon, today's world is different.

Today, necessity is not the mother. As technology advances at lightning speed and organizational structures shift from maximizing productivity to fostering creativity, the narrative is changing. This new narrative is bringing about a different world—one of social and political change, new markets, and intelligent, conversational machinery. Today, innovation is the mother of necessity.

The term itself is not synonymous with the "next big thing." In fact, any idea, strategy, policy, campaign, or business model can be innovative if it addresses a core objective and provides a deeper understanding.

In the healthcare industry, a culture of innovation can lead to equal representation, foster creativity, and bring about positive changes in the organizational framework. Moreover, in public health, innovation can improve the quality of life for the masses. Additionally, creativity and innovation in healthcare can be valuable resources in delivering effective, sustainable, and affordable healthcare over long distances.

One recent example of innovation is Overjet, a dental health startup that offers dental artificial intelligence solutions for clinicians through its seamless and innovative platform. Overjet was created by dentists, insurers, and software engineers who collaborated to develop an easy-to-use software technology that benefits not only dentists but also their patients.

As the sole dental AI startup, Overjet was named "North America's Top AI Companies Shaping the Future" on Forbes AI 50 list. Forbes recognizes the company's ability to make transformative advancements in dental health through its innovative AI solutions.

With 133 employees, the company expanded its workforce by 23% last year. Furthermore, Overjet's estimated annual revenue is $17.4 million, the highest among its competitors. To put things into perspective, the company's estimated revenue per employee is $130,526.

Overjet's solutions surpass significant barriers in efficient dental health delivery and promote proactive dental health for patients, while also strengthening the patient-provider dynamic and improving clinician confidence.

Much like our own products, Overjet's technology exemplifies the personal and professional benefits of innovation.

In this new world, the need of the hour is innovation, and there is no better way to intricately weave innovation into our think tanks than by adopting it as our culture.
