Celebrating Women's History Month in Yonkers

Spring has sprung, and the Women's Inclusion Network (WIN) is excited for the rebirth of in-person events in Yonkers. WIN kicked off the season with a bang, embracing this year's theme, "Inspire Inclusion." We hosted an amazing meet-up in the Learning Center featuring our dynamic new Chief Diversity Officer, Ripa Rashid MBA, and the inspiring Dr. Jade Singleton, who joined the group virtually.

Dr. Singleton led us through an eye-opening discussion on the importance of intersectionality in women’s empowerment and how social justice impacts organizational culture, equity, and inclusion. Through powerful examples, Dr. Singleton challenged perceptions and reinforced the importance of examining the varied intersections of gender with race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and sexuality, diving deep into how these intersections influence equity and empowerment.

The conversation turned to action as we tackled ways to address systemic bias, identify and dismantle existing frameworks that support inequality, and authentically amplify diversity, all aimed at creating a cohesive, productive work environment known as 'one' CR.

And because we love a bit of fun, we got personal with Ripa and CEO Marta L. Tellado through a trivia game, and raffled off CR swag bags to staffers who shared notes about women at CR who have impacted them during their time here.

The cherry on top? Right around wine o'clock, we toasted the end of the session with guests Kate Tchanko and her husband, Andrey Kotenkov, of Yonkers-based Aged Cork Wine & Spirits, featuring selections from women-owned wineries. Kate was kind enough to also bring roses for staffers, from another woman-owned business located in Norwalk, CT, Arugula Tango.
