The Dance

The Dance

I am not a dancer and quite frankly not that coordinated when it comes to anything requiring full body coordination. However, I can fully appreciate good dancers and athletes and watching their talents on display, and I learn a lot by watching them.

Many of the things that realtors do are like a good dance. Transactions are like a waltz and conversations are like the two-step. Are you a good dance partner? Would a potential agent enjoy dancing with you as much as you would like dancing with them? Would you want to both have a second or third dance? Below are 5 reasons why it is important to be a good dancer and how understanding each one can help you have a great experience when buying real estate.

  1. Biologically, our nervous systems do not distinguish between dancing with someone and having a conversation with them. What we do recognize is whether there is cooperation, coordination, trust, competency and pleasure.
  2. Dancing is languaging, and languaging is dancing. We do these withother people, always with our mouths, our eyes, our bodies, and our expressions, and the more effective we are, the more likely we will produce the outcomes we want.
  3. Moods and tone matter. There are appropriate and inappropriate moods. Appropriate moods open up spaces of opportunity in our minds and with others, and inappropriate moods shut down opportunities and thwart our intentions. Moods and verbal tone are also part of the dance.
  4. Seduce, seduce, seduce! No, not in a sexual way but in a way where people want to dancewith you. Be pleasant to be around, be interesting to talk to, be knowledgeable, be helpful, be purposeful, be easy to deal with, be considerate, be humble. All of these ways of beingare seductive.
  5. Finally, have integrity.I don't mean as it relates to right or wrong or good or bad, but as it relates to being consistent, cohesive and whole. Being a great dancer with your agent and then bad-mouthing or being difficult for the agent will be a red flag for your agent. The agent won't forget if they witnessed you treat someone else poorly and it will have an impact on how they assess you and how diligent they work on your behalf.

So be choosy on who you choose to dance with it can make all the difference when making one of the most important decisions in your life. Should you have any questions please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call or text me at 512.943.2280.
