Day 2 at CES

Day 2 at CES

Another day filled with more amazing innovations (and more foot pain). Two day walking total is in at 17.3 miles.

The day started with the Palmer Group Innovation Breakfast which featured speakers from PwC, Samsung, Google, and of course Shelly Palmer himself. Here's the highlights:

  • Trends that have been emerging in past years are starting to come together. These include automation, on-demand economies, and Artificial Intelligence
  • The voice controlled evolution is impacting seemingly everything
  • AR is not going anywhere thanks to proven 5x ability to convert sales, and the projected 4billion AR capable handsets that will be in the market by 2022
  • 83% of all internet data traffic will be video within 3 years
  • Smart Home category being driven by security and voice control
  • IoT has to be fashionable!!!
  • We collectively must think about building API first, developer friendly platforms
  • INFO does not equal KNOWLEDGE - the same as DATA without ACTION = NOTHING

The middle part of the day was interesting. Central hall went dark! No literally, it lost power for a couple of hours.

Later in the day I saw a laser projected 4K TV from Hisense, which is basically the most amazing projector you've ever seen. Also on the TV front, the depth of colors and clarity of the 8K units are incredible. Speaking of clarity I checked out a smartphone with a Leica lens (take note Apple). And then of course there was plenty of smart watches, smart wearables, smart everything... which begged the question of will traditional TV's and smartphones even be needed as more and more other devices and applications begin to offer the same features?

But one of the more interesting things I learned hit a little closer to home. Whirlpool purchased Yumly a little while ago. This was a strategic purchase that gave Whirlpool a custom recipe feature to compliment their appliance products... but perhaps even more important, the Yumly CEO then became the head of innovation for Whirlpool. This was a cool way and a great example for a large corporation to find ways to remain agile and innovative.

And with all that... I'm headed to a crazy CES party, also known as a beer from the hotel lobby bar and up to bed.
