The Essence of Feeling

Often, as leaders we are to taught to dissociate feelings with leading. The general thought process looms around the fact that you cannot be partial if you are personal. I tend to disagree. We have entrenched within us as human beings, especially those in leadership positions, a set of values. These values, in almost EVERY industry, have integrity and trust as cornerstones; is it not thus ironical that we move away from these when practicing our day to day leadership skills.

We need to create an affinity with the people we are surrounded by for 8 hours a day so that you know you can count on them and that they know, they can count on you, when the going gets tough. The basis of every decision made is to put yourself into the other persons position and FEEL the impact of YOUR decision and then consider whether or not it is justified, or for that matter adds value.

The line that exists between management and personnel needs to be eliminated, one cannot micro-manage individuals. Our employees are no longer sheep that need to be pushed into a certain direction, they are thinking individuals, surrounded by technology that makes them aware of every opportunity that exists as well as every change in the industry, including best practices.

We need to surround ourselves with friends, we are after all on the same side, we exist, we want a sense of self worth, we want to live comfortably and we need to ensure that while striving for these, we carefully carry the goals of our organisation with us. Without the organisation or organisations for that matter for whom we have had the privilege of employment we would not today, be sitting in front of a screen reading these words.

Gratitude is often forgotten in these times as we are too busy chasing material need and forgetting the purpose of our existence, this purpose would be be to create a better world for those still to occupy the earth once we have moved on. We need to note that the "world" referred to is the world that we are surrounded by, physically, emotionally and spiritually. We need to leave behind a legacy of care and of FEELING, to let the world know that we have felt their need and tried our utmost to make our single existence leave a smile on those that will remember us.

" we choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them"... Khalil Gibran
