Fall'22 Internship Experience at Volvo Trucks

Fall'22 Internship Experience at Volvo Trucks

As classes are in full swing and graduation is in sight, I would like to talk about my Fall'22 internship experience at Volvo Trucks in Dublin, Virginia as a Logistics Engineering and Fleet Intern. This internship opportunity has given me invaluable insight into my strengths and weaknesses as I venture into the workforce.

I learned several different strategies and got a complete picture of what a role in the fleet could be like. Throughout the process, my opinions were listened to, and ideas were implemented, giving me responsibilities that impacted the project.

I was involved in numerous exciting projects and activities. These included:

·     Supplier Selection for the fleet to meet business and quality targets.

·     Designing Shop Layouts in AutoCAD and ramping up space utilization.

·     Creating a Seasonality report in Microsoft Power BI for the production build plan.

·     Creating detailed documentation to track Rental Forklifts

·     Maintaining change management – replacing all golf carts with Trikes, enhancing safety.

Volvo Trucks has a corporate culture that values health and work-life balance. The knowledge I gained here will help me to face the real world post-graduation. Outside of expanding my abilities in fleet management, I learned many skills that can only be harnessed through experience. I grew in skills relating to time management and effective communication, which I look forward to continuing to grow through.

I would like to thank Bueno Vanessa and Andrew Gore for guiding me throughout my journey, Emily Bryant for a seamless interview and onboarding experience, the entire Logistics Engineering and Packaging team for offering me great help in the related work process, and my program director John Fierst for continuous encouragement.

Volvo Trucks is a fantastic company, and I look forward to what the future brings me!
