From Anxious Rollercoaster to Marketing Empowerment

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀!

Let me share a personal story that taught me an invaluable lesson about the impact of tying my emotions solely to the outcomes of my work.

As a results-oriented marketing professional, I used to eagerly await my weekly reports, eager to see the fruits of my labor.

📊 When the numbers were in the red (decreasing performance), I felt a heavy weight on my shoulders, and anxiety would creep in. On the other hand, when the numbers showed green (increasing performance), I'd only experience temporary relief.

But this emotional rollercoaster started taking its toll on my mental health. The constant highs and lows left me feeling emotionally drained and vulnerable. I began doubting my skills and expertise, even during periods of success. I found myself questioning my worth as a marketer and my ability to meet the expectations of my role. It was a never-ending cycle of self-doubt and insecurity.

It was during one particularly challenging week that I had an epiphany. I realized that my well-being shouldn't be contingent on the ever-changing metrics of success. Especially in this short-term thinking world we've adopted. 🚫 I needed a healthier perspective.

So, I decided to shift my focus. Instead of fixating solely on the outcomes, I started celebrating the process, the effort, and the strategies I implemented.

I focused on the journey, the small wins, and the lessons learned along the way. I stopped tying my self-worth to the numbers and started embracing growth as an integral part of my professional development.

The change was liberating! Not only did my performance improve, but my mental health started to strengthen. I felt more in control, more resilient, and better equipped to face challenges with a clear and proactive mindset.

My work became a source of fulfillment, and my passion for marketing flourished without the burden of constantly chasing metrics.

Today, I encourage all my fellow marketers to remember that while goals and outcomes are essential, it's equally vital to cherish the journey, the progress, and the positive impact we have along the way.

Let's embrace our growth, celebrate our efforts, and prioritize our well-being.

Only then can we truly thrive in the dynamic world of marketing and achieve sustainable success.

👏🏻🙌🏼 Yes, our "why" needs to be about the journey! If it's about the result, then what? Another race and another rollercoaster? Ultimately the end is death anyway. Chasing the measures of "success" we've been taught to desire just keeps us wanting... and running ourselves into the ground. Success should be about how happy we ARE traveling the path to a bigger goal: satisfaction with our daily life experience.
