Good luck affording a house in any of these cities

CNN’s PM Plug-In is a weekday newsletter to catch you up on important news you may have missed during your busy day. Make sure to subscribe to stay in the know.

If you recently won the lottery, have strong feelings about caviar brands or have a favorite private pilot, this probably doesn't apply to you. But for everyone else, it might be good to know that your dream of homeownership might as well be a fantasy in several cities.

The annual Demographia International Housing Affordability report put together a list of cities across the Anglosphere (plus Hong Kong and Singapore) that are "impossibly unaffordable," thanks to investor-driven house buying, a pandemic-era demand for homes with yards, and land-use policies aimed at limiting urban sprawl.

Which cities are on the list? Hong Kong leads the way, but after that, the Top Ten is dominated by Australia, Canada, and the US -- especially on the Pacific Coast.

🏙️📈 Hilary Whiteman has the list here, along with a closer look at what's pushing prices so high.

Parliament was set on fire as protesters stormed the building. Human rights groups say people were shot with live and rubber bullets, and internet monitoring site NetBlocks reported a "major disruption" to connectivity. Follow updates here.

🚗 Car sales trouble: Last week's CDK Global system outage drags on for car dealerships. The shutdown of the software provider has crippled nearly 15,000 dealerships across North America. CDK says it expects to be back online in several days, but the general sales manager at a Mazda dealership in Massachusetts says the financial impact "will take months to correct, if not years." ♻️ Greenest (and sweatiest?) Games: French officials are trying to make the 2024 Olympics in Paris the most sustainable yet, but it may be coming at a cost to the athletes. They'll be staying in apartments with geothermal cooling instead of air conditioning, even as France expects a warmer-than-normal summer. Rooms will also be equipped with recyclable materials, such as cardboard beds. Take a look.

There are tons of houses for sale in the east end of town. Run down homes. All it takes is a group of creative teenagers to change that area from being drug infested and run down to upscale and open for business.

Kids have to get creative. We had no phone or TV and were very creative. You can’t watch, you have to do.

as a teenager we bought a really badly run down house for 16,000. It was 60 years old. Sold it for 120,000. That was back in 1995. You have to take care of your property.
