Grandparents to provide childcare?

While doing our usual financial media scans over the past few weeks we have stumbled across a theme that warrants highlighting.  We turn our attention to the grandparent generation.  We all know that real incomes (incomes adjusted for inflation) have been stagnant for decades and have in fact been dropping of late.  This trend coupled with the fact that prices keep rising has led to parents being squeezed at both ends financially.  Enter the grandparent who is now often being called upon to provide childcare and outright cash contributions to family raising efforts.  In our view, this is a trend that is entrenched and only likely to gain in prominence over the next few years.  We highlight two articles below that describe the pressures both parents and grandparents are encountering in today’s ‘new normal’ financial world.
