Happy Engineers Week!

This week is the opportunity to celebrate engineers or more importantly the next generation of engineers.  Some might think it is not quite as exciting as Walking the Dog Day or National Margarita Day (both today) but maybe that is why they give us a whole week. National Tortilla Chip Day is Wednesday in case you have any margaritas left over.

Hopefully you can take a moment this week to talk to our kids about all the cool things engineers can do.  If you don’t know what to talk about just play this video that was filmed from the International Space Station to commemorate the week.

Another great resource is http://discovere.org.  They have been helping celebrate engineers for the last 65 years and do an outstanding job providing resources to help introduce students to engineering.  While we do have a full week to celebrate there are a few specific days to promote.  Wednesday, February 24th is Global Day of the Engineer.  While you eat your tortilla chips you can check out http://discovere.org/our-programs/global-day to see the global engineering marvels. Near and dear to my heart since I have a 9 year old daughter is Girl Day on Thursday the 25th.  Event details are at http://discovere.org/our-programs/girl-day and the shortage of females in the engineering career field is something that I hope is corrected in my daughter’s generation.  It can only happen with a concerted effort.
