HELP IS ON THE WAY DEAR!
by: Carolyn Christie
It has been a while since I said hi =) Pre-warning, currently listening to some terrible Starbucks music blasting in my ear, so if this article is terrible, it's because of that ;)
Now let's get to business.
HELP is on the way. I may not be as "helpful" as Mrs. Doubtfire, but I hope this article offers a ray of hope.
Remember, no matter how crappy things seem, it's never as bad as Mrs. Doubtfire losing her teeth into a glass of scotch.
On to the main point: Optimizing your LinkedIn profile.
As a recruiter, the very first resource I use is LinkedIn Recruiter. And I'm not alone; most recruiters I know do the same. What does this mean for you? Your LinkedIn profile often gets viewed even before your resume.
Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile:
Photo: Ensure you have a friendly professional photo. It legitimizes your profile, signaling to recruiters that you're active and real.
Location: It's advised to specify your city or region rather than just "United States."
Title: This is crucial. Does it accurately reflect your current role?
Keywords: Make sure your profile is sprinkled with relevant keywords so that you pop up in searches.
Activity: Be active. Share, comment, and engage. Remember, everything you do on LinkedIn is visible, so avoid negative posts, especially while job hunting.
Filters: Open to new opportunities? Add it in the filter, Recruiters often pull these filters first. Word of caution-an Employer may be able to see you are open to work.
Consistency: Ensure there's consistency between the dates and roles on your LinkedIn AND your resume.
Bonus Tip: Virtual Coffee Chats! Initiate or join "Virtual Coffee Chats" with professionals in your industry. These informal 15-minute video calls can be a game-changer. Not only do you grow your network, but you also keep a pulse on industry trends.
Just remember, every time you face a setback, think of Mrs. Doubtfire. If she can handle housekeeping, childcare, and a dinner service—all in heels and a wig—then your professional challenges should be a piece of (slightly smooshed) cake.

9moUse your headline wisely. Don’t use adjectives (e.g. “expert, ambitious, dedicated,” etc.), it’s self-aggrandizing. Don’t use meaningless robotic language (“proven track record,” “results-oriented,” etc.). Do let us know what you do or what you want to do!
