Here's What We Are Learning from Clients

We get asked all the time: What’s top of mind for your clients and how are they addressing the new realities occurring in the workplace?

In the spirit of sharing those insights with you, we asked some members of our team to weigh in on the trends and topics that are are the forefront of our client engagements. Here is what they said:

  • "As Gen Z enters the workforce, we are seeing a profound impact on workplace culture from multiple generations bringing different expectations and ways of working to their jobs." –  Mariah Cherniss, Head of Consulting Excellence (Higher Education, Healthcare Industries)

  • "Right after the Covid epidemic, organizations were giving people space but now there is increased focus on performance and accountability. There is a lot of right-sizing going on but there is so much emphasis on getting things done that changes are not always strategic." – Erin Wilgus, Consultant (High Tech, Biotech Industries

  • "Today’s world requires different leadership skills yet people are leading longer than any time in the past. How do we move beyond the short-term to look at long-term leadership needs and support the next generation of leaders?" – Mallory Nightingale, Consultant (Manufacturing Industry)

  • "There is a continued emphasis on speed and agility – decide quickly and move fast. This is getting some pushback from employees." Beth Hoang, Consultant (High Tech Industry)

  • "Companies had gotten away from communicating business strategy but there is a refocus on helping employees know how they are connected and their role in implementing strategies." – Whitney Grabowski, Consultant (Manufacturing, Healthcare, High Tech Industries)

We are digging deeper into the impact of some of these trends through quantitative and qualitative research that updates our 2021 study results captured in Good for Me, Good for Us, Good for the World: A New Agenda For Business Leaders. New Research Findings

Our latest research shows that 98% of knowledge workers believe that effective communication is important for an effective culture, yet just 26% strongly agree that their company’s communications are effective. This is just one of many intriguing – and actionable – results we are uncovering in our 2024 update to original research that we initially conducted in 2021.

We surveyed 1,200 US-based knowledge workers, people managers, business executives, and HR leaders to identify their current priorities and key issues. We will be sharing detailed results and insights soon, but preliminarily we are seeing the trends identified in our 2021 study gathering even more power to transform our organizations.
