I Am the National Rifle Association of America

I am pretty surprised that I didn’t do it long ago but then again it didn’t seem that our Constitutional rights were under attack. More and more I keep hearing that many want to change the Second Amendment and I am not going to have any part of it.

The Second Amendment, adopted on December 15, 1791 says this, “A well- regulated Militia being necessary to the security of the free State; the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” This is pretty self-explanatory and I understand totally what it means. Once again, there are individuals out there that want to change the rules and the way of life that has made America great. Some feel that the government knows best and will make the right decisions for us. Here is a message to those that think that. This is not a communist country. The day that the government makes all of our decisions is the day that life as we know it will come to an end. Remember it was because of one person, Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the founder of the American Atheists that ended bible reading in public schools back in 1963 and the rule still stands today. That was a sad day then and still is nearly fifty three years later.

I am pleased to say that I recently joined the National Rifle Association (NRA) and now stand with millions of others that are committed to preserving our rights under the Second Amendment. It is every Americans right to be able to defend themselves and their family. It is our right to bear arms. The NRA does a good job in working to help protect this right. Here is a bullet point. Most of the bad guys that are committing crimes with firearms are not buying them at the local gun shop. Many are getting them illegally. Some of these weapons are being smuggled over our borders along with drugs and the border patrol can’t seem to do a darn thing about it. On a reverse note, try and sneak into other countries or bring illegal stuff there and see what happens. You probably will get killed or locked up in one of those small community cells forever unless you are lucky enough to have the resources to be able to buy you way out.

I believe that owning a firearm is our right but it also comes with some responsibilities. I remember as a child I would love to put on my holster complete with a cap gun and at times think that I was a real policeman or a cowboy. Those times certainly have changed but some things haven’t. I was raised to respect law enforcement and follow the rules. That is one of those things that stuck with me for my whole life. I in turn passed it on to my children and hopefully it will continue for generations to come. I would hope that law enforcement would follow the same rules and I think for the most part they do.

There are only so many in law enforcement. Now, more than ever, men and women around our country are legally arming themselves as a line of defense to protect themselves and their families. The bad people don’t want or expect any confrontation. Let’s watch out for each other and stand ready just in case the need will ever arise.
