The Internal Threat: It’s time to stop pretending it doesn’t exist.

Conducting pre-employment background checks is a well-established process and a requirement for those of us operating in the DOT space.  The reasons for this are numerous and well known.  Driver iQ knows this as well and we have long offered a comprehensive, reliable, and price-competitive way to ensure that you know the full criminal history of your potential driver.

The thing is though, that criminal history report is provided at a moment in time and is just that – “history”.  It’s a snapshot that lets you know about any issues at the second the report was run which is important information for you know, to be sure.  However, what about after you’ve hired this driver?  Does your organization have a process in place to ensure that you will receive timely information when one of your drivers runs afoul of the law?

In addition to driving related issues with criminal backgrounds, carriers are responsible for the safety of their employees, vendors, and customers alike. (Did you read that extra carefully all my “final mile” friends?)  A current employee with a clear Criminal History check conducted when hired (whether yesterday, last week, or several years ago) just doesn’t cut it, and this is the "internal threat". It's real and it's significant.
