IoT for Egger Pumps

Some months ago, I discovered the smartsensor of ABB.

My first reaction was: what a great tool! But why does it exist for motors only? Everyone needs such a smartsensor for the entire unit like for our pumps.

I found my way in the judge organization of ABB and luckily, their digital team was of the same opinion as me and they were ready for a common development project for pump smart sensors.

After different meetings and in-house testing, the following malfunctions have already been detected: Operating hours / Rotating speed of the pump / Absorbed power / Vibrations value RMS / Misalignment / Unbalance / Bearing condition / Blade problems / Cavitation.

As a next step, we have started a field test campaign on Egger pumps as well as on a competitor pump at the wastewater treatment plant AVA at Altenrhein – Switzerland. Our goal is to optimize the signal algorithm for earlier clogging detection, which will enable us to supply a simple pump-monitoring tool for all Egger dry-mounted wastewater pumps by the end of Q1/2018.

In a next step we want to offer a similar solution to the industry by the end of Q2/2018.
