It's Just A Matter of Time.

In any business or organization, time is always of the essence, making time management a vitally important tool for success. Because it is so finite, time must be managed as carefully as employees, products, and services. Creating an appropriate balance between managing administrative functions and developing employees can be a challenge. Here are 4 Ways to Balance Your Time for creating a workable balance of time and attention that benefits both sectors of success - employee and organizational.

Step #1 - Acknowledge and understand that fair does not always mean equal. Attempts to split the focus between administration tasks versus employee development on a strictly 50/50 basis will quickly prove futile and frustrating. Each segment will sometimes require one hundred percent of your time and attention, which means the other will get zero focus.

Step #2 - Learn to identify the roles that administration plays in employee development and their impact on employee development. Although they may sound identical, each is an integral part of establishing healthy time balance and of equal importance.

Step #3 - Too much focus on the administration functions can lead to unintentional employee neglect. Consequently, while administrative matters from the framework of employee hiring, development, skill enhancement, and performance benchmarks organizations can't overlook the importance of focusing on the employee. Organizations need the balance of employee interaction, positive observation, and critical feedback as parts of the administrative duties as we balance.

Step #4 - Employee development is critical to organizational success. One of the best ways to ensure employee success is through the development of clear goals, expectations, guidelines, and milestones. These qualifiers must be appropriately outlined in the administrative processes of hiring, employee development and assessment, and performance reviews. The key is to provide feedback on these qualifiers in a simple and succinct cycle.

As you can see, the proper balance between managing administrative functions and developing employees is crucial. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, employee relationships with peers and superiors, ongoing development, attention to administrative tasks, and organization success are vital. That makes it critically important to correct any imbalances between managing administrative functions and developing employees. It starts with understanding when each area requires your focus, attention and how each area is dependent upon the other.

It's only a matter of time before your ability to create a healthy balance impacts your business, positively or negatively. Let's make it count!
