Indian economy opened in 1991. There was a lot of skeptism at that time; it was believed that we shall be swamped by MNCs who had deep pockets. Indians would end up mainly as vendors or small time suppliers for MNCs. While MNCs did set up shops in India, but their best practices were also emulated by Indian companies who dusted up their inertia & started getting competitive.
