Liberally Slather On Your BPF's

Liberally Slather On Your BPF's

In keynotes over the past few years - a question kept coming up: What can we do to prevent burnout?

If you've been around here awhile, you know that I don't exactly believe in burnout prevention (unless it's relapse prevention) - so I had an internal quarrel with myself about how to best answer this Q.

I want to give you the answers you're looking for and also help you understand why the questions you're asking might not be the right ones. It's a delicate dance (and I'm not known for my delicate nature).

As per usual in my world, research showed me the way.

We've talked about how ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences - basically childhood trauma) is related to burnout due to how it affects brain development and stress interpretation. Within the ACE's research, there is such a thing that is known as Protective Childhood Experiences. I started playing with this idea about a year ago and used it to develop a new keynote and some new ideas for your recovery and relapse prevention.

This week on the podcast, for the first time in a fully available public forum, you get to hear the concept of BPF's (Burnout Protection Factors). BPF's are pieces of your life that you either have or can build that help to mitigate the Burnout Risk Factors (BRF's) in your world.

BPF's are often the reason that some people DON'T burn out, even when they are in the same position as us. BPF's are how we build resilience during and after burnout recovery. BPF's are the factors that mitigate BRF's.

I want you to think of BPF's the same way you would think of SPF. Everyone needs at least a little - and some people have higher risk factors for sun damage (burnout damage) so they need a higher SPF (BPF) (My Irish skin needs a 50 SPF at all times).

There is NO JUDGEMENT around how high your BPF factor needs to be. We all have different levels of vulnerability, so we all need different amounts of BPF's.

After working out some kinks, I can FINALLY offer this topic as a keynote that has been in development for over a year.

Slather on Your BPF's: Protecting Leaders and Teams from Burnout

Description:

Burnout is a result of chronic stress that overwhelms the body's natural ability to manage that stress. The questions that sits behind that are: Why? And more importantly - how do you know if you're at risk? Plus - what can you do to mitigate it? In this talk, Cait takes a biopsychosocial lens of burnout to create a holistic view of the factors that increase burnout vulnerability and the factors that keep burnout at bay. This talk offers a fresh perspective that allows you to walk away with implementable tools that are tailored to your exact needs.

Takeaways:

1. Participants will be able to assess their own vulnerability to burnout

2. Participants will discover and utilize protective factors to balance out their burnout vulnerability

3. Participants will be able to drop any sense of shame, blame, or judgment around reactions to stress

4. Participants will approach colleagues' burnout with more empathy and understanding

Currently, I'm booking out 2024 Q4 and 2025 Q1. There are a few select dates in Q2 and Q3 2024 that I could sneak in for you, especially as a virtual session!
