Meet our team!

Our Service Office Manager, Max Martinez, has been with Cummings Electrical for seven years. He is a TCU graduate, an military veteran, and a proud Papa! Read on for more about Max.

What brought you to Cummings Electrical?

When I left the military, graduated from school, and started in the workforce, I thought accounting would be my career path. That kind of work always spoke to me. But where we start is only sometimes where we end up. Once I got into the big corporate world. I realized it wasn't for me after all. I did not enjoy it, and I wasn't happy. Here at Cummings, I have found a home and the professional and friendly environment I want. I look forward to coming to work every day and having a great team and support system to work with.

What did your time in the field teach you?

When I was onboarding, Chris Lasater and I talked about how beneficial it would be to learn more about our work, not from a chair in the office but from being out there in the field. So, I worked in the field my first two years here, doing various jobs. It was a great way to build rapport and learn what we do and how we do it. The more you involve yourself with this company, the more opportunities will be presented. I really like that. One of the important things I witnessed firsthand was our electrical work is just a portion of what we do. There is a lot of preparing, planning, and surveying a job site before any electrical work starts.

What has been a pivotal moment in your time with Cummings?

I was working at a job site with Keith Croll, the PX, when I overheard a coworker say there was an issue with his hours, and he hadn't been paid. Keith immediately offered to go to the nearest ATM and get cash out of his account so the guy didn't have to go without until the issue could be resolved. That was an extraordinary act and confirmation that I was exactly where I wanted to be. Pivotal moments are not always caused by you or something you've done. The most impactful examples to me are when you see that larger-than-life type of leadership that makes you say, this is the person I want to work for, the type of person I aspire to be, and the kind of company I want to be a part of. Patience, understanding, and a little compassion go a long way.

What are your goals for the future?

I focus on owning and improving my role and responsibilities and supporting the team. When I became Service Office Manager, we had around 100 field employees. Now, we have over 350, and that's just within a couple of years. So, it is vital to our work that we have processes in place to help with our continued growth. When hiring new positions, we look for the right fit, a person to be here for the long haul. This will help build a solid foundation.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I have a two-year-old daughter. My job is demanding, so I spend any free time I have with her. She loves going to the zoo, so we go there a lot. She loves to see the animals, but her favorite things to do at the zoo is ride the small carousel and play on the splash pad. Seeing her laugh and smile is the best part of my day.

We’re so proud of you Max!
