Merging, partnering, collaborating among NFPs

Predictions of a wave of not-for-profit mergers, partnerships and collaborations are rampant. Many organizations are logical candidates for some form of alliance. There are opportunities for larger organizations to expand their offerings and for small organizations, especially those that don’t benefit from scale or a strong national brand, to gain greater stability. However, not-for-profit organizations are only slowly considering such options. While the trend is occurring much more slowly than conventional business logic might dictate, there have been some recent successes of note. For an organization contemplating uniting with another, a wise decision relies on an acceptance of the difficult realities and measured answers to these key questions.
