My Fall Internship - Peterbilt Motors Company

Peterbilt Motors Company, a PACCAR Company is a leader in the manufacturing of premium medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles headquartered in Denton, Texas. Throughout its 80-year history, Peterbilt has earned its reputation as the “Class” of the industry with leading design, innovative engineering, and advanced technology with smart care solutions in commercial vehicles.

As an ITM graduate student at UT Dallas, I got an amazing opportunity to work as a Data Analyst Intern at Peterbilt. Currently, I am working on projects associated with the quality improvement on the warranty functions of Peterbilt. My overall experience at PACCAR was profuse as I was trusted with shouldering a huge responsibility to work on unique projects.

I feel grateful to foresee the growth a company could achieve by the virtue of analytics and data science. Initially, I was overwhelmed with the amount of data that gets populated on a day to day basis across the company. The Peterbilt internship program is designed in a way to offer interns the opportunity to throw new ideas and work on open-ended projects and not just being a task-taker. Enhancing automation in analytics and improving the quality of existing business scenarios has showered me the opportunity to learn and understand the business better. One of the interesting projects that I worked on was to develop a model to reshape the customer names using fuzzy matching and the resultant model was designed in a way to support future analytics with a similar scope.

A well-balanced work-life with a workforce of nicest of nice people around – I feel obliged. I am extremely grateful to work with my manager Jason Potter for this unparalleled opportunity and for mentoring me during this internship. It was great working with Doug Gunter, Warranty Manager and Brisa Ponce, Data Analytics Manager for her brainstorming ideas and Sam Paul, Moinak Pyne and Abhiraj for their great support.

It was my privilege to work in a company with a vision committed to excellence and passion to bring out the best in the industry. Equally, I am thankful to the professors at UTD and JSOM Career center for imparting me the right skills needed for this internship.
