My Internship Experience!

Esra Motors is a company that specializes in providing used quality parts for foreign cars such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Porsche. They have been in business since 2011 and continue to expand their platforms of sales. Initially they started out as a retail shop, but they then grew their inventory and created an online website that is available for access on Google, Car-Part, and eBay. 70% of their annual sales are online sales. All parts that are listed for sale must be taken off the vehicles, cleaned, and pictured to list on the website. Once an order is placed online, a team must pick the parts and prepare them for packaging. Packaging can take some time as it requires attention to safety to ensure the part arrives safely.

As a undergraduate student at University of Texas at Dallas, I got the opportunity to intern at Esra Motors and understand the amount of work and organization it required to maintain an efficient work flow. Supply chain management methods are utilized every single day at their warehouse and facility. Everything from purchasing inventory, to preparing them for pictures, to listing them online, and finally packaging them, takes tremendous amounts of efficient planning and strategy. I was able to see first hand how instrumental Supply Chain Management is to their efficiency and profit margins. All parts must be organized correctly for quick picking and safe delivery to the customer.

My responsibilities for my time at Esra Motors were as follows:

·      Assist any walk-in customers with any help they may need. Request all necessary information needed to locate the correct part for the customers need.

·      Receive incoming inventory and prepare them for pictures. Each new load of parts can contain 140-165 individual pieces that will need to be cleaned and sorted into their respective picking locations.

·      List items on the eBay platform with proper fitment charts and maximize search visibility with effective titles and descriptions.

·      Once a local sale is complete, recommend one of our partners for installation of the part that was purchased.

I understood the importance of Supply Chain Management better after my time with Esra Motors. I believe that any company that has a process in place should hire a supervisor that manages all operations and maintains a standard rate of efficiency to maximize profit margin. My time with Esra Motors helped me visualize how what I have learned could be used in a company and what else could be done to improve efficiency and workflow in their daily work. I appreciate the opportunity and the learning experience given to me by Esra Motors and look forward to apply the lessons learned in my career.
