Never Promote Your Own Work Nor Your Company

Never Promote Your Own Work Nor Your Company

Yeah right. We never promote our own work nor our company in the marketing field nor on LinkedIn.  I seldom talk about my daytime profession - I am a digital marketer for Gerber Life Insurance Company and am darn proud of it. Here are two reasons why:

I had a vasovagal syncope episode (nervous system shutting down blood to the brain due to pain, shock and stress) at work last Thursday. I fainted, lost consciousness for a bit, 911 was called and an ambulance took me to the ER.... Thank you to my family at work, who showed me so much love and care. That was a moment of humanity when everyone came together, each playing a role in a crisis. A swarm of people descended and efficiently took care of me. Can you believe our VP of HR sat next to me in the ER until I was ok? Gerber Life is truly a company that is with you every step of the way. I have never before felt that way about a company that is not my own.

Another reason is the ass-kicking web site we launched yesterday. This was five long month of real hard work and at least 1.5 years in the making since the first pitch to the CEO. Not only did we have a face lift to the site, we also implemented a Content Management System! Five months is a pretty incredible speed for us. This new site is awesome for the traditional insurance industry. Granted, there is so much more to do... more site optimization, dynamic personalization, even more consumer friendly voice, digital storytelling, etc.. But we listened to our customers and changed how we operate to take care of them.

"Do you know why you need life insurance?  Do you know what type of insurance you need?  Do you know how much life insurance you need?"

These are the type of questions most of us don't know.  A little sad but true. Only in the case of an emergency (like fainting in the office), do we realize how little we have set up to protect our loved ones. In my case, it's my 12-year-old honey boo boo monkey bird and the reminder that I must change all my beneficiaries to be her and not leaving it to my ex.

I am very grateful to have my Gerber Life family (both in White Plains and Fremont) and my agency partners (Merkle, Exclamation Labs, More Visibility, Winterbridge Plus Media) supporting me in this site launch. They had my back and more throughout this journey of transformation. Thank you, my love.

* My Legal department wants me to state, without a doubt, that I am an employee of Gerber Life Insurance Company and I am not getting paid extra for writing this content. This is not endorsed advertising. And all what I want to say is that this comes from the heart!
