A New Day at H&R Block

A New Day at H&R Block

Six months ago, when I decided to join H&R Block as Chief Marketing and Experience Officer, my friends and family thought I had just transitioned to the world of taxes. What they didn’t know then was that I had joined a company that not only has a proud history of tax preparation, but one that increasingly is growing its financial and cultural relevancy. We’re not the same company your parents or grandparents knew. We have a bright future – and we will help to build it with a world-class Marketing and Experience organization.

Our culture and associates are connected

While you never know exactly what to expect when you transition into a new organization, I am very inspired by our Connected Culture and the focus Block places on it. Relationships are at the heart of how we work with each other, our customers, and our communities.

We recently celebrated our second consecutive year being certified as a Great Place to Work®, and we were named to Forbes World’s Best Employers 2022. These recognitions underscore our commitment to building a Connected Culture that emphasizes the importance of working together and creating a safe environment for everyone to bring their authentic selves to work.

This culture is at the center of our strategic focus, and it creates an environment with clear accountability, partnership, and trust. This allows us to focus on common goals, including accelerated business and personal progress. We are building upon the company’s Connected Culture within our Marketing & Experience organization. As I always say, ‘the better you know one another, the better you can work together.’ I always stress with my teams the importance of getting to know each other outside of work, and we’ve made great progress in my first six months in building bonds throughout the Marketing & Experience organization, as well as throughout the company.

Relationships are also key to how we serve our clients at Block. I quickly learned that Block has more than 12 million hours of conversations with Americans every year. Think about it – tax pros are discussing important life events with customers from birth of a child, moving, retiring, and so much more. It is this human expertise and care that I immediately came to understand and appreciate about how Block helps people at a very important financial moment of their year.

Community is part of our legacy

We help more than 20 million people every year. Some of which we help in person at nearly 10,000 locations. Block is at the heart of nearly every community in the United States. I am so proud to be a part of a company that puts serving community at the top of its priorities. Through our community impact platform, Make Every Block Better, we are working to connect neighbors and support small businesses, all with the goal of our associates and franchisees around the world collectively volunteering 1 million hours by 2025. It’s an amazing goal. I’m so glad to do my part.

This summer we celebrated what would have been our late co-founder Henry Bloch’s 100th birthday. As part of larger efforts to better connect with our clients and communities, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, proclaimed his birthday, July 30, as Make Every Block Better Day. We recognized the occasion by organizing globally more than 100 teams of associates to participate in volunteer events in their local communities. This was a powerful moment and part of why it feels like a special time for me to be at H&R Block.

Block is here to help people, and not just during tax season.

We’re here for customers year-round

In my career, I’ve had the privilege of being part of and leading marketing at some impressive, well-known brands. Each had its own challenges and opportunities. I’m looking forward to the challenge of helping consumers form new perceptions of Block as we help them become better with money. We’re an iconic brand here to help the next generation of taxpayers, here to help people better access and manage their money through Spruce, and here to help small business owners with taxes, bookkeeping, and payroll. I know we will continue to share our story and make H&R Block one of the most loved brands in America.

Green now takes center stage as one of my favorite colors and has become a staple of my wardrobe. It’s only fitting that H&R Block’s signature color is synonymous with growth because we are evolving and building something special as we transform!

Go Greeeeeeen!
