New Year's Note - About Success

Not only as a recruiter but also as someone who really enjoys speaking to people, I interact with many different kinds of people during my work/off-hours.

And I notice that there is a common factor that 'successful' people share, regardless of what they do and where they are in life: They provide what OTHERS value and appreciate, in a much bigger scale than anyone else in the same domain can provide.

Imagine there are 10 people in the room doing the same type of work.  There are usually 1-2 people at the top, maybe 1 at the very bottom, and 7-8 in the middle.  Successful people are those in the top 20% in their group, wherever they belong.  I said "wherever" because that place can refer to anywhere that we spend majority of our time.  It does not matter whether we are a data scientist, risk manager, auditor, doctor, or a housewife.  Successful people focus on what they do best.

When we do what we do best and that act benefits others, we automatically become successful because we become the major source of what others need.

What is that ONE THING that you can do better than anyone else?

Do you spend most of your day doing THAT THING?

If you know what that is, are already spending most of your time doing that, and happy where you are – congratulations and thank you for your service.  Keep up the great work!

If you don’t know what that is and are spending your day doing something that you are mediocre or rather poor at (be objective!), I hope you start thinking about how to find it. It would be difficult to find out whether or not we are good at something until we try it ourselves.  So go try new things until you find your forte!

All in all, I wish you all the best and much success.

PS - If you know what that is, are already spending most of your time doing that, however want to move to a new environment where you will be more valued and appreciated and feel comfortable in your own skin, feel free to contact me. I will be able to help you personally if you are in Accounting/Finance as a industry specialist recruiter. If you are not in these fields, still feel free to ping me. I will try my best to connect you to the right recruiter/career coach in my network.
