Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate

I am a strong believer in Occam’s razor principle which states:
"Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily."
Sometimes it is quoted in one of its original Latin forms to give it an air of authenticity:
"Pluralitas non est ponenda sine neccesitate"
Sir Isaac Newton stated the rule: "We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances.”

In EA I would translate it as keeping the Goals and Objectives at the fore front. While doing the Business Model Assessment, keep in mind that it is the strategy that drives the change. Assessment equips you with the information. It is the process of evaluating the strategic intent. The assessment metric would describe different ways to capture the architectural risks. The question now would be how to create the assessment metric. A simple approach could be to view the capabilities from the stand point of:
• Maturity
• Importance
• Performance
By evaluating the capabilities based on these measures a gap analysis could be done as to where these measures should be as opposed to their current levels. This gap analysis could then lead to translation into defining and prioritizing initiatives.
