Recognizing the Value of Teamwork

Recognizing the Value of Teamwork

I created this neon installation to pay homage to the team and their impressive drive to collaborate amongst themselves to build and grow trusted client relationships. This piece will shine bright in my office as a shout-out to the team for being best-in-class, and their pursuit of leveraging the whole firm to deliver creative and insightful solutions for our clients.

I’ve always believed art has the power to communicate and turning on the lights of this installation highlights a number of key leadership messages:

  • The T was made with brown glass and represents diverse thought and leadership. Further, the subtle array of blues and greens in the word Teamwork represents our shared ambitions while also celebrating the differences amongst the team.
  • The T underlines the word Team, showcasing the importance of leaders to support, remove obstacles and inspire.
  • The T is in lower case, representing the importance of acting with humility. I also incorporated a tilted mathematical “equals” sign here to represent the progress, but still unfulfilled journey for equality.
  • The word Never is shrouded in a stop sign as a reminder to seek progress and not perfection. The stop sign is also a reminder to avoid rigidity.
  • The word Sleep appears to be lying flat, reinforcing the importance of mindfulness and taking time to care for your mental health.
  • The Superhero symbol appears in all of the neon works I’ve created over the past six years and represents the idea that in order to achieve sustained greatness, you need to invest in your own wellness. Even Superheroes need to take off their magic cape, put down their magic wand, sleep and restore energy.

There’s even more meaning embedded in this piece that reflects my leadership values and I’m grateful to have this in a space where showing up as a thoughtful leader enables the team to bring their whole selves to work and feel empowered to constantly innovate and never accept the status quo.
