Rosewood Young Hoteliers Storytelling Campaign: Audrey Im

Property: The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel

Function: Talent & Culture Intern

How long have you been with Rosewood: Currently at my fifth week with the hotel.

Tell us your proudest moment at Rosewood.

My proudest moment at Rosewood was when I finished creating picture frames for the Associates Summer Photo Contest. Seeing all of the associate's photos on the frames gave me joy, knowing that the frames would be put up in the cafeteria where associates will gather for a bite or to take a break. The photos displaying landscapes of different locations in New York provide a sense of community and desire for exploration. I am glad to be contributing to this impact. During this process, I was also familiarizing myself with digital editing apps and software which was a great opportunity. I collaborated with my T&C team for this project, and it was overall a delightful experience.

What are some of the things your team or Rosewood did to make you feel like you belong?

Rosewood made me feel like I belong since the day I stepped into The Carlyle. Through Discovery, an orientation for new associates, I learned more about The Carlyle than I ever could, and in just three days. Duane, at our T&C team did a wonderful job leading Discovery and I had such a great time. This experience gave me a big scope of the hotel, the culture with it, and the people. Additionally, every day at the office, I always feel like I belong thanks to our entire T&C team who make themselves available for me whenever I have a question or need guidance. I’ve been able to help with some projects, join meetings, and have some food with everyone!

What's your favorite dish in the cafeteria?

One of the best dishes I had at the cafeteria was the Penne alla Vodka. I am a big fan of pasta, and I thought the dish was cooked perfectly. I had it during Discovery, which made me even more excited for my internship at The Carlyle. A worthy mention is the Pao de Queijo that our Chef at the hotel, Ricardo, made once. It was the first time I ever had it, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it since.

What is your must-have item to bring to work?

When it comes to work or professional outfits, I believe that a pair of heels elevates the look. However, wearing them all day during the commute to work and at work isn’t the most pleasant experience, and I had to learn it the hard way. Now, I must bring a pair of comfy shoes to change into once I leave the office!

If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give yourself on the first day of your job?

I’d tell myself to relax and to absorb everything that I learn. As an intern, I’m here to work and provide assistance, but to also learn! Therefore, I’d tell myself that work is going to be a ride, with new experiences each day. So far it’s been such a wonderful experience and there have been so many opportunities to learn something new. I’d also tell myself to come to work even earlier for the croissants at the cafeteria!

What is your calling?

I believe that my calling is to make a positive impact in other’s lives, whether it be assisting them with a basic issue or just simply have a nice conversation. The number of stories I’ve heard about people whose lives changed for the better because of just one person is plenty and very inspiring. People can make strong impacts on others lives, and I only want them to be positive. To be able to just simply help improve one aspect of someone’s life is my calling.

What do you appreciate most about being in hospitality?

I appreciate the long lasting relationships and impacts made. Rosewood focuses on relationship hospitality, which is very notable through the interactions I witness at work. I appreciate how hotels provide a sense of home, and how much care associates put to ensure that guests who stay at the hotel feel welcome. Being in hospitality showed me the importance of genuinely caring for others and doing this not only through words but with action.
