Progress on the path to decarbonized aviation was our top news focus this past month, with the start of wind tunnel tests of our #CFMRISE Open Fan demonstrator and successful tests with the first hydrogen-fueled gas turbine engine for the light aviation market. ✈️ Safran and ONERA start wind tunnel tests of future Open Fan

The first wind tunnel tests with the ECOENGInE, a 1:5 scale demonstrator of the future Open Fan, have begun in Modane, France. This disruptive architecture, a key pillar of the CFM RISE technology demonstration program, is currently the most promising in terms of reducing the environmental footprint of aviation. The Open Fan engine will reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions by 20% — and up to 80% when combined with SAFs or sustainable aviation fuels — for the next generation of single-aisle commercial jets by 2035.

📢 Turbotech and Safran test first hydrogen turboprop for light aircraft

Turbotech and Safran successfully completed the first test of a hydrogen-fueled aero gas turbine engine with ultra-high performance regenerative cycle. The test was made possible by ArianeGroup’s resources and decades of expertise in preparing and performing tests with hydrogen fuels for space applications at its Vernon test facility in France.

⚡ VoltAero chooses Safran electrical wiring to equip the Cassio 330 electric-hybrid certification aircraft

Safran Electrical & Power has been selected to supply the electrical wiring on VoltAero’s Cassio 330 electric-hybrid certification aircraft, confirming Safran’s role as a leading partner in VoltAero’s clean-sheet e-airplane.

🛰️ Safran to equip LeoStella satellite constellations

LeoStella is pursuing its partnership with Syrlinks, a Safran Electronics & Defense company. The Rennes, France-based company will equip LeoStella’s latest-generation of LS-300 satellite buses with its high-performance, resilient N-SPHERE GNSS receiver for low-Earth orbit applications.
