Spring Co-op at Volvo Trucks North America

Spring Co-op at Volvo Trucks North America

Volvo Trucks has been changing the landscape of the trucking industry with its innovative approaches time and again, and to have been a part of the pivotal sales team that drove these major decisions has been nothing short of exhilarating! 'Quality' and 'safety' are synonymous with the Volvo brand name today, and it was truly wonderful to see a company that prioritized driver safety with every fiber of its being.

I started my Volvo journey on January 20th 2020 with a Product Research Co-op position on the Volvo Trucks Sales team. This gave me a great opportunity to learn about the various products offered by Volvo, how they placed safety at the core of their decisions, and how the brand worked tirelessly to improve their offerings to cover all possible trucking needs. My projects took me through a range of research and analysis activities- insurance options for the trucking domain, competitor analysis, industry segmentation and profitability analysis, extensive accident and safety research etc., to name a few.

The work involved wide interaction with my own team and with personnel from external teams, and it was always a delight to learn more from people who were ever-willing to take time out and help with my projects. It was a special delight to work with Laurent Decoster from the Europe ART team, who imparted much knowledge on the accident and safety scenarios. I would like to extend a special thanks to my mentor and manager, Roopa Jha Shenoy, who presented me with this valuable internship experience, ensured that I got to work hands-on on projects that could steepen my learning curve, and gave a very personal touch to my tenure at Volvo.

My co-op experience with Volvo Trucks NA has been a very memorable one, especially the experience of driving a truck for the first time and being an active part of the Women In Engineering organization. I would like to express sincere thanks to all my faculty at UT Dallas, who helped me acquire the skills necessary to be a part of this internship. Much honored to be associated with UT Dallas and Volvo Trucks.
