St Brigid's Centre the experience so far...

  When I was planning to open a clinic of my own with the initial dream of having two associates who promised to join me without hesitation, I was ecstatic and truly motivated.

We opened on the 14th of August 2007, and it turned out to be a very busy day, all the patients in my data base were informed of the change of venue with the help of a system devised by my colleague Wilfred Galea called SMS for Health. This turned out to be a very effective way of ensuring the change over of patients to attend the new clinic.

Unfortunately, none of the two associates who promised to join me turned up on the day. So here i was with a 200 metre square clinic and had to do what I never planned to do and that is to work SOLO........ Well I still am and have been for the last nine years, but now with a difference .

During these years budding young specialists started showing interest in joining the team at St. Brigid's and till today we can boast that they have established themselves in the clinical private profession in Malta. That was my second dream that of having a multidisciplinary team attending this centre where patients in my practice would have a one stop sort of shop where their case would be seen by a resident specialist and continuity of care guaranteed by continuous communication with their family doctor that is yours truly.

Here at St. Brigid's we boast of good sized consultation rooms, offering air conditioning, internet connection, an efficient online appointment system where the specialist can enter new appointments. We offer a constant customer care approach and also boast that we do not charge clients, clinic fees, except when they undergo an intervention in our mini theatre / treatment room.

We still welcome any specialists who wish to attend this clinic, the plans for the future is to recruit a general surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon, a pediatrician, an ENT specialist.

 As to new projects for the future , there was an expression of interest in setting up a Pain Management Clinic, and also on the setting up of a Trans Cranial direct Current stimulation for patients undergoing psychiatric treatment. Recent discussions on the setting up of a dental care facility are in their initial stages but the outlook looks very positive.

One augurs that this centre will continue to expand our way , slowly but surely, thus ensuring better and varied care for our patients in the future................
